Holy smokes. We leave 5 weeks from this Saturday. Gulp. We still have to book a hotel in Wuhan, book airline tickets from Shanghai to Wuhan to Xian, get the train tickets for Xian to Beijing... find a translator/driver/guide for Wuhan.
Up until this week, the trip was sort of an abstract, cool thing that would occur in the distant future. But now... it's practically here.
We'll use this blog while we're in China to post pictures and give our friends and family and idea of where we are and what we're seeing.
And no, neither of us has learned to speak any Mandarin Chinese. But we have a netbook, we have Mandarin apps for our iPhones and if all else fails, we'll smile and say "Ni Hao. Do you speak English?'
